1950’s

1955: Bliss Engineering Company was incorporated

1957: John Nyitray joins BNI 02/12/1957 and becomes the 2nd employee in the firm.

1959: Bliss Associates, Inc. was incorporated. After several small projects the office was given it’s first large project which was the Metro Justice Building in Miami and soon followed a 12 story Apartment Building in St. Petersburg, FL.

*Projects consisted mainly of single family residences, pools, additions and small 2 story office buildings*

1960’s

1963: Bliss & Nyitray, Inc. was incorporated. BNI in the 60’s experienced a lot of growth. They had a lot of condo work, high rise building, hotels, convention centers, etc. Projects that stand out are the David Williams Hotel (1963) which was the first building that BNI worked on with an exterior precast concrete load-bearing wall panels. The 10 story Jade Towers- sprayed concrete structure.

1970’s

1978: Bart Wallis joined BNI on 01/30/1978. Continued growing the firm and continued to work on condos & high rises. Began working in Miami International Airport. BNI’s first large projection was the Skybridge and several projects followed and continue until today.

1980’s

Moved to the 51 SW Lejeune Road address in the early 80’s. Condo work stopped due to law suits and continued airport work.

1982: Ed Bliss retired.

1985: BNI start using AutoCAD instead of hand drafting.

1986: Paul Zilio joined BNI on 04/17/1986.

1987: Dolphin Stadium, opening game August 16th 1987 (first stadium awarded to BNI).

1990’s

1992: Bliss & Nyitray’s first branch office was opened (Tallahassee). Oriole Park at Camden Yards had opening game April 6th, 1992.

1995: Alltel Stadium had it’s opening game August 18, 1995. Design and reconstruction was completed in just 22 months. Ron Jezerinac joined BNI on 11/17/1995.

1996: Bank of America Stadium had it’s opening game September 14,1996.

1997: Fedex Field had it’s opening game September 14,1996.

1998: M&T Bank Stadium at Camden Yards had opening game September 6th, 1998. Raymond James Stadium had opening game September 20th, 1998.
Roger Dean Spring Training Facility opened February 28, 1998.

2000’s

2000: Comerica Park had opening game April 11, 2000. Features the “World’s” largest free standing scoreboard structure. George Khoury joined BNI on 09/07/2000.

2001: Heinz Field was completed Sept. 2001 and had opening game October 7th, 2001.

2002: Fort Lauderdale office was opened. Gillete Stadium had opening day August 17th, 2002. BNI won the American Consulting Engineers Council, Engineering Excellence, Grand Award for their Structural Design of Heinz Field.

2005: Orlando office was opened. Ownership Transitioned to B.Wallis, R. Jezerinac, P. Zilio, G. Khoury.

2006: Busch Stadium had opening game April 10th, 2006. John Nyitray retires on March 2006.
